Rusty Rierson is a native of El Dorado, Kansas. Growing up on the family farm he fell in love with agriculture and pursued the degree at Kansas State in Ag. Econ. Graduating in May 2008, Rusty is currently attending graduate school at K-State in Animal Science in Management. He started singing in church and soon it became a passion. He learned guitar when his father, Roger, suggested that they take lessons together.
NCK Swing Band
THE CALVARY ECHOES QUARTET, from Wichita, Kansas, recently entered the contest at the National Quartet Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. This outstanding quartet placed amonth 70 quartets and trios from around the United States and Canada. Members of the group are Dale McBride, Larry Detienne, Andrew Wells, and Mark Hall. The Calvary Echoes are celebrating 26 years singing Southern Gospel. The Music with an Eternal Difference.
Bucky Fowler started playing country music at an early age. His father, Don Fowler, was an active country music performer when Bucky and his brothers were growing up. They all became very interested in music and performing as young boys. Bucky and his brothers enjoyed many years of success with their group, “The Fowler Brothers Band”. They performed country music all around the mid-west for many years, working country dances, concerts and shows with various national artists.
above - In 2005, Rierson won the state wide "YF&R
talent find contest" hosted by farm bureau and
performed at the Kansas State fair where he is
annually invited back. In 2007 Rusty won the
"Colgate Country Showdown" at the state level and
placed in the top 15 nationally. Rusty's new album
is called "Till the Fat Lady Sings," a project he
started when he was 16. There are a number of
songs he wrote, and co-wrote and a few written by
friends and fellow musicians/writers.
above right -As the new millennium came to pass, a
cosmic alignment of the stars heralded a conflagration.
Jay Quinn and John Wild were like-minded men on a
mission, who loved Blue-eyed Soul, Rock‘n’Roll, The
Blues, Country Honk, Folk-Tinged Multiple-Part
Harmonies, and Swamp-Rock. There was one ingredient
missing from their formula for utopian dream: they sought
a guitarist. A chance meeting brought Dex Umekubo --
also known as T-Dex -- into their lives. Chewy (aka Jarrod
drums. Jay took up his five-stringed bass and added
vocals.  John wielded his mighty microphone while power-
vocals.  John wielded his mighty microphone while power-
strumming on his chosen Excalibur, and the alignment
was complete...and thus was born a mighty and majestic
entity that could not be contained. Something like a
boogie-minded, groove-oriented, soul-shaking, music-
making, zombie-raising, swamp-dwelling, guitar-wailing
and vocalizing kind of voodoo – only wilder.
Through the years Bucky Fowler has never lost his passion for
performing music of many genres, country, rock, pop, and blues.
He continues performing today with a family of his own. His wife,
Karla, and their three daughters, Kristine, Kelcy, and Kandace,
all sing and perform in what is now known as “The Bucky Fowler
Band”. Often they work acoustic shows as “The Bucky Fowler
Family”, performing country, gospel, and bluegrass in an
“unplugged” setting. These are some of their favorite shows to
perform because the setting and atmosphere allows them to
become much more intimate with the audiences.
Classic country is a main ingredient and some of Bucky’s favorite
music to perform, certainly due to his fathers influence. He feels
very blessed to now have his immediate family around him to
work with, and loves the fact that his wife and daughters also have
a passion for country music, especially the classic country and
bluegrass gospel.
Jolleen has been singing most of her life.  At age 14, she received a guitar for
Christmas and this opened up a whole new musical world for her.  She has
been active in various acoustic music organizations in the area and is
honored to have been the recipient of several vocal awards.  Additionally,
Jolleen is a songwriter and performs some of her original tunes at the group’s
performances. Don began playing acoustic music in the early ‘70's.  He and
Jolleen and two other musicians formed Pastense early in 1994, after meeting
at a local bluegrass club jam. Prior to his acoustic music career he was the
rhythm guitar player for Roulette recording artists the Morning Dew. Don plays
bass for Pastense and is the emcee for the group.
Diane joined the band in July of ‘95. She has been playing the violin/fiddle
since she was ten years old. She is passionate about passing on the fiddle
styles to the next generation. Diane teaches private music lessons in both
violin and guitar. In 2002 she won first place in the Kansas State Fiddle
Championships in Lawrence, Ks. Dave Dryer has been playing bluegrass music
most of his life.  He is well known for his flat-pick guitar abilities, but is also an
outstanding mandolin player with an exceptional ear for arranging harmony
parts. Over the years Dave has played in various bluegrass bands, and has
been playing with Pastense since 2001.
Susan Willits joined the band in May of 2005.  She has been playing acoustic
music with local groups since the late 1970’s. Banjo was her main instrument
(and first love) but she has focused on mandolin for the last few years.  Her
vocal harmonies provide the “Pastense” sound to which everyone has grown
accustomed.
Pastense has provided entertainment to many folks around the Midwest,
including bluegrass festivals, corporate events, fairs, community concerts,
theme parks, television programs, opry houses, chuck wagon dinners, trail
rides, theater productions and many other types of events. Pastense provided
entertainment for the Inaugural Event 2007 - Best of Kansas, the inauguration
event for Kansas Governor - Kathleen Sebelius.
In April of 1996 the group recorded its first album entitled Simple Ways, a
second, self titled album in the summer in 2003. The second CD was
engineered by Kansas rock legend, Kerry Livgren. The group released it's third
recorded project in November 2006 entitled Winter's Come and Gone.
In addition to vocal harmonies and instrumentals, their performance is loaded
with humorous anecdotes to complete the total entertainment package. You
can check out on their website at:  http://www.Pastense.org.

THE M & m SISTERS - Merry (Kingsbury) VanderGiesen and Manda (Kingsbury) Wanner have been performing together for several years. Recently, MDM Entertainment discovered this comic/singing duo. Just like everyone's favorite candy, this outrageously funny pair is entertainingly colorful and come in two very different packages. These best friend sisters bring to life two out-of-the ordinary, quarky southern characters, better known as Mini Pearl and her backwards always bubbly cousin Urlean from Backwoods, Ark. The M & M Sisters have delighted audiences across the states of Kansas and Nebraska, performing for numerous local and area wide events, benefits and social gatherings. Some of the recent events include the Kansas Sampler Festival, Chamber of Commerce banquets across Kansas and Soil Conservation meetings. They have performed numerous times in Topeka for a variety of company meetings and Christmas parties. This sister act will have you laughing out loud with anticipation of what will happen next. Merry owns and operates the Jiffy Burger located in Smith Center. Manda is the drafting supervisor for Peterson Industries, Inc. in Smith Center.
